THE
MAN BEHIND THE INITIALS DP...
Interview with Double Portion
By: YOUNG
YOUNG: Who is the artist Double Portion and the Man behind the
name?
DOUBLE PORTION: Well, Double Portion is basically an individual
lead by the Holy Spirit that has been sent to complete one major
assignment
that has many smaller assignments attached to it. In short the
artist "DP" is
a soldier. The man behind "DP" is evangelist Dreyson
Clark, son and servant of the most High God; He is also a husband
and father of two children/ also the CEO of Dunamis Records;
and there are several other hats that I wear but we'll save
that for
the next interview!
YOUNG: What has God given you to offer the masses?
DP: Holy
Boldness!
YOUNG: What are your thoughts on the subject of Christian Artist
using non-Christian music to create their own music?
DP: That’s
a really touchy subject. It all boils down to your convictions
and your
calling. The first actual Christian Project I did was entitled
C.M.T. (Christian
Mixed Tape) Vol. - 1 "Born Again"(available for free @ www.dunamisrecords.net)
and It consisted of 7 songs that are over secular tracks. When
I started rapping again after I had rededicated my life to Christ,
I though
I was the only one that was doing it. I felt like I had this tremendous
weight on my shoulders to expose the lie behind popular music.
I was given a specific pattern to do the mixed tapes by and they
were done
for a specific reason. To make you forget the lyrics that your
brain retained from the original and remember the Word of God.
Basically reversing the effect the original song had on the unsuspecting
listeners.
But not everyone can do it. You definitely have to be called.
YOUNG: How powerful do you think an Artist of any genre can influence
a listener?
DP: I've heard it said before that if you can control a
persons mind, you control the body. That is the danger in secular
music and
at the same time, the responsibility of being a gospel-recording
artist. As a gospel recording artist once they've gotten your attention
should
always direct you back to Jesus Christ. The artist is an evangelist
no matter what genre of music, and has the gifts to draw people.
YOUNG: How did you deal with pulling your music off the shelves
and completely submitting your life and lifestyle to Christ?
DP: I
obeyed! Plain and simple. I was given instructions and I followed
them.
I thought about the money I would lose and the friends and the
fame but it wasn’t worth my soul when compared to each other
so I just did it! And at this point it’s too dangerous for me
to even look back so I'm pressing toward the mark for the prize
of the
high calling in Christ Jesus!
YOUNG: What is one thought that you want to leave the readers
that you feel God is placing on your heart right NOW?
DP: Don’t let music
be your main source. It is said in many cultures and religions
that music itself is a religion. Don’t let your love for music
drown out Gods Word and don’t let it become your God!
